Lazy Guide To Productivity – The Unproductive Way To Being Productive

by Josh Grillo

Do you ever feel like the more you read on productivity the less productive you become?

If I add up all the time invested in books, blogs and products it’s appears I’m better at studying productivity than implementing it.

Why are we so fascinated with being more productive? Just so we can get more stuff done. Only to replace the stuff we did with more stuff? That’s alot of stuff!

Lazy Tip #1: Stop Being So Productive

The work isn’t going anywhere. It will be there when you want to do it. Instead, get out and do something you really enjoy doing. Come back with a smile on your face, settle down and get productive.

This has worked incredibly well for me and I came up with it all on my own. No books or blogs, just me being productive.

Lazy Tip #2: Get Out Of Your Inbox

Never, ever keep your email open while you work. Turn it off. Your email brings time vampires, those people that want something from you. They’ll suck the time out of you.

Instead, check your email twice daily. I’ve found 10am and 3pm to be particularly effective. I’m in and out within 30 minutes. I got to thank 4 Hour Work Week for this one. Made a huge difference in the way I work.

Lazy Tip #3: Hide Your Cellphone

Turn it off and put it somewhere out of site. That means moving it to another room if you have to. Your essentially creating a distraction free environment. When you finish an important task then use your cell phone.

Lazy Tip #4: Write Your Day Out The Night Before

It’s the same as having vision and setting goals. We want to work toward something. Have a purpose. Same thing goes for our day.

How nice is it to walk into the office knowing exactly what you’re going to do that day? If you’re like me, you already feel like you accomplished something. Like your productive.

Wrap Up & What You Should Do Next

I hope you got the point I’m trying to make. You don’t need to read countless books, blogs and buy more products to be productive. Just turn off the distractions. In most cases, that’s probably what’s slowing you down.

Thanks for reading!

What’s the difference between being busy and being productive?

I think once you solve this riddle, you begin to get stronger results :)

Thanks for the comment Ivan… For me being productive is working on building my businesses. How about you?

to be honest, I feel a lot of it is AVOIDING the mental clutter that distracts me from doing what needs to be done RIGHT NOW.

Sometimes not doing stuff is what matters most.

Need to follow my own advise, of course ;)

Please use some of your productive time to brush up on the proper use of “your” and “you’re.” One is possessive, and one is a contraction for “you are.”

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for pointing that out. My wife yells at me about the same thing :)
